Today’s wave of eco-conscious beauty has sparked a surge of interest in Facial Oils and Facial Serums. Using natural ingredients containing botanical plant oils, the small molecular structure makes them much more able to penetrate the skin. This locks in moisture and balances the skin’s natural oil production, leaving you with a healthy, radiant glow.
Most facial oils and serums are mixed to suit various skin types and many contain therapeutic essential oils such as frankincense, geranium and neroli. This ensures the scents are just as pleasant as the effects they have on your skin. People with sensitive skin can find relief as they primarily use pure plant oils minus the preservatives, which increases the chance of skin irritation and allergic reaction.
Frankincense – liquid gold for skincare
In my opinion, Frankincense is the king of the therapeutic essential oils when it comes to skincare. This is because it has so many beneficial properties that can help a surprisingly wide range of skincare types. It soothes and reduces inflammation and can also help prevent acne forming thanks to the boswellic acids, which are capable of killing the bacteria associated with acne.
As for its anti-ageing work, Frankincense is famous for its wrinkle-reducing superpowers. This is due to its cytophylactic properties which, stimulate cell regeneration and protects older cells from free radical damage.
As we age, our skin produces less oil often leading to dry skin, which in turn exaggerates the look of wrinkles. Applying a facial oil or serum between cleansing and moisturising will add an extra layer of hydration, reducing dryness and fine lines. Use a good quality oil or serum which uses organic, plant based products. Neal’s Yard really fits the bill here plus the fact that their Frankincense is ethically resourced from Oman.
How To Use
- Start with a clean face and neck, ideally using good quality cleansing and toning products
- Place 2-4 drops of the oil or serum on your fingertips and massage into the skin using upward circular motions from the neck up.
- Complete your skincare routine with your favourite moisturiser.
Facial massage gets your complexion glowing by increasing blood circulation and enhancing the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. The relaxation of facial muscles melts away tension helping to soften fine lines and wrinkles, reduce puffiness and expel toxins.
So, which to choose? A personal favourite of mine is the Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil which I use every night. I can also recommend Frankincense Intense Age-Defying Serum and Frankincense Intense Lift Serum. If you’re a fan of the delicious scent of citrus fruits then I can highly recommend the award winning Orange Flower Facial Oil which is also excellent value for money.
I hope this gives you a better insight into the benefits of using facial oils and serums. They are a bit of a luxury but they are lovely to use and they do make a difference in my opinion.
